2019 is the year when increasing numbers of operators will showcase commercial 5G services. As it is already seen, though, what gets called 5G in public might be very different from what the industry has been working on. Moreover, there will be a big difference between early deployments of 5G essentially as faster broadband and the ultimate aim of providing dynamic network slices to support massively different kinds of service on a mobile basis.
Reaching this end goal will require very different network architectures and new business relationships between infrastructure owners, national and private networks, satellite players and more. It will demand a different vision of network operations, SLA management, customer interfaces and relationship management. All of these elements have the scope to create radically new services – and, crucially, can all be acted upon with an LTE network still in place.
The Honor brand from the stable of China’s telecom solutions provider Huawei is completing three years in India this year. After giving tough competition to Samsung and Apple in China, Huwaei is confident of repeating its performance in India, too, and is betting big on its upcoming smartphone models, coinciding with the ongoing festival season.
